On November 9,2009 the Federal Government Announced the construction of the 4 million passenger per year airport. This action was later confirmed in January when the federal budget was posted and included the equivalent of $235 million dollars to subsidize construction cost. There was also 2 billion dollars earmarked for supporting infrastructure including intersections, water supplies and a 12km 4 lane highway runs from the air port to federal highway 307 by Laguna Nopalitos.
