At first blush David Hornick appears to be the most unlikely candidate to be spear-heading a housing development in the state of Oaxaca, one of the southernmost and poorest states in Mexico; his Spanish is sparse to be generous, until earlier this year he had never ventured to this part of the country, he’s never designed or built a home, and he’s lived virtually all his life in Schenectady, New York, leading a more or less typical, middle-class existence.
But Hornick had a vision, born of other life experiences which made …

We’ve had many people ask about what is going on with the Loreto Bay development, so I figured I’d better offer up a report. It looks like the developers (TSD Loreto Partners), have more or less run out of money. They have, and still are, looking for someone to take over the development, but so far they haven’t had any luck. Without the necessary money needed to continue operating the development, though, they have been forced to close up shop. This obviously will have a serious impact on the property …

The possibility of the Trump Organization building a mega-resort in Cozumel, Mexico surfaced again last week.
In response to local press reports about the development, Donald Trump Jr, Executive Vice President at the Trump Organization, said they “would still be interested in doing a deal”.
The Trump Organization said last May that the plans were not being pursued at that particular time, but 8 months later it seems they have still not been dropped altogether.
Although Mr. Trump said “nothing has changed” since last May, he left the door open for a project …

The real estate slowdown has not discouraged Mexico’s richest man to continue to invest in real estate. Carlos Slim, who was named the world’s second richest man by Forbes earlier this year, controls Grupo Carso, which plans to build a $800 million real estate complex in Mexico City. According to Bloomberg.com, the super project will be built on 54,000 square meters where a tire factory once stood and is near the upscale Polanco neighborhood. Bloomberg is also reporting that the plan will include include “430 apartments in three towers, a …

One of a series of reviews about golf courses and golf real estate in Mexico.
The Grupo Mayan golf club offers a breathtaking Nicklaus-design course set within the grounds of the Mayan Palace hotel between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Despite having 18 holes each with a par of just 3, this is by no means a pitch-and-putt.
Ideal for practicing your short-play and squeezing in a round that would take longer elsewhere, this exceptionally beautiful course features sand traps, jungle vegetation and lakes surrounded by rocks, a challenge for even the …

The New York Times recently featured Mexico real estate in San Miguel de Allende, a Spanish colonial town northwest of Mexico City. The article describes the influx of Americans who are taking up residence in San Miguel and how this has affected the quaint town with deep roots in Spanish colonialism. In twenty years the population has doubled to 140,000, with American expatriates now making up about 10% of residents. Real estate prices in some areas have tripled. The cobblestone and Spanish architectural structures clash with the modernization and …

Less than an hour north of the Mexican border with Belize, lies the town and lagoon known as Bacalar. Previously, the area was regarded exclusively as an adventure tourism destination, but now Bacalar is a significant part of Costa Maya, an area of special recent interest, infrastructure growth and real estate development south of better-known Cancun and the Riviera Maya in the state of Quintana Roo.
Steven Sohrakoff from Bacalar Properties, answered a few questions for Mexico Real Estate Investment about the area of Bacalar.
Steven, what differentiates your area from the rest …
