Grupo Sunset announced, last week, that they plan to invest $26 million in their Sunset Fishermen Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen.
The group made the announcement at a tourism fair in Acapulco. They said the money will be used to remodel and expand their popular Playa del Carmen real estate project with 80 new apartments.
Grupo Sunset was created in 1998 by leading Mexican businessman, Orlando Arroyo Marroquín. It has the backing of strong tourism partners in Cancun, including local entrepreneur, Arturo Marcelín, and architect Jorge Pallas Cáceres.

According to Pathfinder International, Mexico’s government is preparing for a major infrastructure upgrade to Mexico’s Riviera Maya and hopes to increase tourism to the Riviera Maya from 2.9 million visitors last year to over 18 million by 2025. From Pathfinder International:

Newspaper reports have revealed details of the much-awaited Riviera Maya airport plan in Tulum, including the date the project will be put out to tender.
A source at the Mexican Government’s Secretary for Communications and Transport (SCT) told Reuters news agency last week that November 9, 2009, “is the latest date” for publishing the terms of the auction, although other reports suggested a delay could still be possible.
The news is a “boost” for the Riviera Maya real estate market.

A 47,938 acre ecotourism project in Costa Maya, Quintana Roo, has been relaunched by the Mexican government. The development could have 28 miles of beach and generate 30,000 jobs near Mahahual on the Mexican Caribbean coast.

The Riviera Maya has another amazing archeological wonder to add to its list of tourist attractions.
Mexico’s National Anthropology and History Institute (INAH) said that they are recovering a great Mayan city, called Ichkabal, buried under tons of earth and jungle south of the Riviera Maya, 30 miles (50 km) from Chetumal.
Ichkabal’s 7,400 acre (3,000 hectare) area has structures more than 130 ft (40m) high and could provide new knowledge about the ancient Mayan civilization.
The site was originally discovered in the 1990s. It was constructed in the Pre-classic Mayan period, around …

A new real estate project, Grand Coral, aims to become the largest investment in the Mexican Caribbean with a planned 6,900 residences just 30 miles from Cancun.
According to a press release by Grupo Grand Coral:
