Hi-- We are moving to Lake Chapala this summer. My husband is a psychologist and would like to open a practice for expats. Is this possible? What about licensure? Thanks so much for your help.

Kenni - you will have to have a work visa and register with your state's Secretary of Health. You will need both registration and certification through that office. We are currently developing more specific information on that process, but it is slow going. We'll get through it and post it as soon as possible.

What I can tell you is that the only way you want to work as a nurse in Mexico is to build your own business. You cannot imagine how low the pay is - or how little autonomy there is. The autonomy issue alone makes this not a good career destination for American nurses.

I would like to ask a question and hopefully someone can answer it. I am a nurse from the U.S. and now I live in Mexico. I am completely bi-lingual English/Spanish. I have had to use my Spanish speaking skills often throughout my years in nursing. I have alot of experience. I would like to know if it is best to try and obtain a license to practice nursing in Mexico or should I just use my U.S. state license (seems to be acceptable) and how do I go about doing so. I am starting a home care/visiting nurse agency here in Oaxaca which seems to be
necessary as many people cannot stay home to care for a sick family member. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
