Electricity In Mexico

24 March 2008 105 views No Comment

Electricity in Mexico is run by the CFE or Commission Federal de Electricidad, except for the Baja peninsula where the electricity is exported to California from a separate commission. Electricity is billed bimonthly and will be shut off if there is a late payment. Paying electricity bills can be a hassle as bills must be paid in person at a local bank or CFE office. When you purchase your property it is a good idea to ask around about the local electricity infrastructure patterns as outages can be common in some areas and each area has a unique structure. Mexico is remedying many of the electrical problems in several areas but some rural areas will have a longer wait. Some factors to take note of are local transformers strapped to poles as well as hurricane and storm frequency, which both contribute to local outages. Installing a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) or generator can help to alleviate the problems called by sporadic outages.
