NuWire Investor just named Loreto the best place in Mexico to invest in real estate. Loreto, which is located on the east coast of the Baja Pennisula, may just be the next blockbuster tourism spot in Mexico.

Good Infrastructure

Loreto currently is home to an international airport, marina, wastewater treatment plant, a tennis center, and a golf course. They have also received $200 million in investments in infrastructure from FONATUR , Mexico’s National Trust Fund for Tourism Development (NuWire).

Opportunities for Growth

Loreto has a population of just 14,000 and is a market that is undeveloped compared to other markets. With home prices in 2007 ranging from $130,000-$865,0000 US and land costing $200 per square meter on the water (NuWire), retirement homes and rental units are very affordable relative to other markets.

Focus on Sustainability

Sustainability is important to this town with roots as a fishing village, and growth is controlled to minimize disruption of the ecosystem. Developers like Loreto Bay and FONATUR are working together to establish a model for sustainable development. Loreto Bay claims to be the largest sustainable development in North America and cites “working closely with numerous conservation groups to preserve the ecologically sensitive marine environment”, such as being cognizant of the blue whale migration through the area.
